Off-Grid Emergency Communications Refresher (GMRS radios)
Saturday, March 28th from 10:00am – 12:00pm
This free session is a refresher workshop designed to guide citizens on how and when to use GMRS radios as a useful backup communications tool in the event of an emergency.
The workshop will include several directed lessons:
- Proper equipment usage
- Equipment augmentation to extend radio range
- The use of directed nets to maintain communication with a neighborhood or a group of family members or friends
Please bring a GMRS-capable radio to participate in class exercises, if you have one. A limited number of loaner radios will be available for participants.
A limited number of pre-programmed radios will be available for a purchase of $30 (cash or check only). You will be responsible for obtaining a GMRS license from the FCC to operate on GMRS frequencies. Click here to learn how to obtain a license.

Radio Programming
We will have technical staff on site who will update the programming for your radios with the latest local channel list, which includes an important update to be able to use the MCECN GMRS repeater on Cacapon Mountain.
Bring any Baofoeng UV-5R radio, including those distributed at previous seminars. We can support other radio models provided we have a matching programming cable, or you can provide one (usually accompanied with radio during purchase).
